Past Lives: Thrift Store Ephemera
January, 2007 at Creative Electric Studios: "Past Lives: Thrift Store Ephemera." New paintings, installations, and photographs inspired by used stores.

"Thrift stores are aesthetic: all the terribly ugly objects, lined up on shelves, aisle after aisle: bad designs, bad color choices, bad quality, bad idea, bad time in my life, etc. - but put them all together and it's a beautiful testament to human blundering. Beautiful strivings, beautiful nostalgia, beautiful past times: like people, a beautiful, messy spectrum."

Opening reception January 20, 2007 6:30 - 11:00pm.
On view: Saturdays 11am - 4pm or by appointment. Through February 17th, 2007.
Creative Electric Studios, 2201 2nd Street NE, Minneapolis, MN 55418

Formerly on display at the Shoebox Gallery, at Chicago and Lake, Sunset on Lake and Chicago
Formerly on display at the Shoebox Gallery, at Chicago and Lake, "Sunset on Lake and Chicago" - new paintings inspired by my disappearing neighborhood. "My neighborhood - Chicago and Lake - is undergoing a transformation inspired by the renovation of the old Sears building; it feels like a curtain is about to be raised on a new neighborhood, one with new corporate neighbors, new sidewalks, new faces. The paintings in "Sunset on Lake and Chicago" pay homage to the old neighborhood: it wasn't very friendly, because it was poor, but I lived there, so I'll miss it. And I wonder where the people from the old Chicago-Lake will live now, who always have to live somewhere no one wants to think about." Visit Paintings to see some of the new paintings.

An imagined scene from Snowbird, the recently completed feature-length script set in Minneapolis' forgotten working-class suburbs.
Snowbird Fundraisers - Throughout 2007, we will be producing a series of gatherings to raise money to shoot Snowbird next winter. Currently in preproduction, Snowbird was written by Wyatt McDill, who will also direct; Megan Huber will produce. Set in the snowy streets, gray parking lots and strip-mall restaurants of North Minneapolis and it’s adjoining suburbs, “Snowbird” is about a woman who’s lost her memory and must learn how to live, work, and make friends among America’s hardworking underclass. Justin Kirk is slated to co-star in Snowbird and the soundtrack will feature music by The Ashtray Hearts, The Nice Canadians and Yo La Tengo.
